NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Beginning this Saturday, calls placed within the Nashville area will be required to dial an area code plus the seven digit telephone number for the call to be completed.

Due to an increase in the demand for telephone numbers in Middle Tennessee, 629 will join 615 as an area code for the Nashville area on March 28.

Phone calls starting Feb. 28 must include the new dialing procedures or a recording will instruct callers to hang up and dial again.

The new area code will be implemented after the North American Numbering Plan Administrator estimated the depletion of 615 area code telephone numbers in the spring of 2016.

The changes do not mean your telephone number or area code will change.

You can still dial just three digits to reach 911.
